Anantnag, March 06 (KNO): Former chief minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday protested against the government of India's decision to ban Jamaat-e-Islami J&K. Mufti led the protest march of party activists over the ban in Khanabal area of Anantnag district in south Kashmir. According to KNO correspondent, a large number of PDP activists assembled in Khanabal and protested outside Housing Colony. “The protests will continue and may gather pace if the ban is not lifted from JeI," she said, adding that detention of members of JeI, moulvis and Imams affiliated with Ahli-Hadith is a direct interference in our religious affairs. "This cannot be tolerated," Mufti said, adding that Jamaat is an ideology and in democratic country arresting people is not the way of dealing with ideas. Jamaat-e-Islami was declared an unlawful organisation by the Government of India and its activities were banned for five years. A crackdown was launched against Jamat members and its leaders were arrested and shifted to various jails in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. It’s the fourth time that the JeI has been banned since its inception in 1940’s in the J&K state.(KNO)
